What Product Change History does#

  • Record changes to prices, compare-at prices, costs, SKUs and barcodes.
  • Review edits to titles, descriptions, tags, vendor, type, status, category and SEO fields.
  • Inspect image and variant changes, with the previous and updated values.
  • Read recent product changes from the Tools block inside Shopify admin.

Set up Product Change History#

  1. Open Product Change History in Toolbench and choose Turn on. Choose it as one of your 3 active free modules, or use Premium.
  2. Review and approve any access request shown by Shopify.
  3. Wait for the initial catalog scan to save the current product values.
  4. Make a small, reversible edit to a test product in Shopify, then check its history in Toolbench.
  5. Pin the Tools block on product pages if you want to read changes while working on a product.

Settings and behavior#

Settings and behavior
Setting or fieldWhat it means
Before / afterThe saved value before the update and the value received in the update.
TimeWhen the change was recorded; useful for investigating scheduled imports.
Long text and imagesOpen the details to read long values and inspect image changes.

A practical example#

A sale price changes back after a catalog sync. Compare the two prices and the recorded time in Product Change History. Use that time to investigate the import or integration, then correct the product in Shopify if needed.

Permissions and data access#

Reads products and inventory. This module does not edit product data.

Access is requested when you turn the module on. Other enabled modules may request their own permissions.

Requirements and limits#

  • Tracking starts after activation and the starting snapshot; earlier edits cannot be recovered.
  • Shopify product updates do not name the staff member who edited a field. View History provides context but does not prove who made an edit.
  • This is a change log, not an automatic backup-and-restore tool.

If something is not working#

  • Check that the module is on and the initial scan has finished.
  • Check the full history inside Toolbench as well as the product’s Tools block, which shows recent activity.
  • If updates are delayed, note the product and edit time when contacting support.
