Who is Toolbench for?

Toolbench is for Shopify stores where more than one person edits products, orders and checkout settings. Small stores can run any 3 tools free. Growing teams use Premium to run all 13 at once.

Can Toolbench replace separate apps for audit logs, checkout rules and stock alerts?

Yes. Toolbench combines change history, shipping and payment rules, low stock alerts, catalog checks, broken link redirects and internal notes in one app. Each tool turns on and off on its own, so you only run what you use.

Does Toolbench slow down my store?

No. Toolbench adds no code to your theme or storefront. Checkout rules run as Shopify Functions inside Shopify's own checkout, and every other tool works inside the Shopify admin.

Does Toolbench work on every Shopify plan?

Yes, Toolbench works on every Shopify plan, from Basic to Shopify Plus. One limit comes from Shopify itself: outside Shopify Plus, rules that hide, rename or move credit card payment methods don't apply in some countries, including the US and Canada. Rules for cash on delivery, bank transfer and other payment methods work on every plan.

Change history and audit log

How can I see what changed on a Shopify product?

Toolbench's Product Change History logs every edit to a product with the value before and after the change. It covers title, description, price, compare-at price, cost, SKU, barcode, tags, vendor, type, status, SEO title and description, category, images and variant options. The history shows in the app and on the product page in the Tools block.

Can I see who changed a product price in Shopify?

Toolbench shows which staff members had the product open when the price changed, which usually answers who made the edit. Shopify doesn't include the staff member's name in the product updates it sends to apps. Toolbench's View History fills that gap for pages where the Tools block is added.

How do I see what an order's shipping address was before it was changed?

Toolbench's Order Change History records the old and new shipping address every time an order is edited. It also logs changes to line items and quantities, totals, discounts, shipping lines, tags, notes, and the customer's email and phone. Order Change History is part of Premium.

Can Toolbench help with chargebacks and order disputes?

Yes. Order Change History keeps a dated record of every address and order edit, with the values before and after. History is kept 90 days by default. Card disputes can arrive months after an order, so you can raise it to as much as 365 days.

How do I track changes to customer details in Shopify?

Toolbench's Customer Change History logs edits to a customer's name, email, phone, addresses, marketing consent, tags, notes and tax exemptions, with the values before and after. The history shows on the customer page in the Tools block. Customer Change History is part of Premium.

Why did my Shopify collection suddenly lose its products?

Toolbench's Collection Change History shows when a collection's conditions changed and what they were before, which is a common reason an automated collection empties. It also logs products added to or removed from manual collections, and edits to the title, URL, SEO and sort order.

How do I know if someone edited a discount code?

Toolbench's Discount Change History logs every edit to a discount: its value, codes, start and end dates, usage limits and what it applies to. A 10% code changed to 100%, for example, shows up with both values and the time of the change.

Does Toolbench show changes made before I installed it?

No. Toolbench records changes from the moment a tool is turned on. When you turn one on, it first saves the current state of your products, collections, discounts, recent orders or recent customers, so the very first edit afterwards already shows its before value.

How long does Toolbench keep change history?

Product, collection and discount history is kept for as long as Toolbench is installed. Order history is kept 90 days by default and up to 365 days. Customer history is kept 365 days by default and up to 730 days. You set both in each tool's settings.

How is Toolbench different from Shopify's order timeline?

Shopify's order timeline lists events, while Toolbench shows each changed field with its old and new value side by side. The Shopify admin also keeps no earlier values for products, collections or discounts, which Toolbench does.

Can Toolbench undo a change?

Not automatically. Toolbench shows the exact earlier value, so you can copy it back into the product, order or discount in the Shopify admin.

Checkout rules: shipping, payment and fulfillment

How do I hide a payment method at checkout in Shopify?

Toolbench's Payment Rules hides, renames or reorders payment methods at checkout based on rules you set. A common rule hides cash on delivery when the cart subtotal is over a set amount. Rules can check the cart's subtotal, item count and weight, the products' tags, collections, vendor, type and SKU, the customer's tags, order count, total spent and B2B status, and the shipping address.

How do I hide or rename shipping methods at checkout?

Toolbench's Shipping Rules hides, renames or reorders shipping options at checkout based on the cart, the customer and the delivery address. For example, it can hide express shipping when a product tagged "oversize" is in the cart, or rename a rate so customers understand it.

Can I choose which warehouse or location ships an order?

Yes. Toolbench's Fulfillment Rules chooses which locations can ship which items, or keeps items together in one shipment. A store can, for example, send frozen products only from its cold-storage location.

Do Shopify checkout rules need Shopify Plus?

No. Toolbench's shipping, payment and fulfillment rules work on every Shopify plan, because they run on Shopify Functions. The one exception is set by Shopify: outside Plus, rules that hide, rename or move credit card methods don't apply in some countries, including the US and Canada.

Will checkout rules slow down my checkout?

No. Toolbench's rules run as Shopify Functions inside Shopify's own checkout, under Shopify's speed limits, and add no scripts to your store.

How many checkout rules can I create?

Each rule tool holds up to 50 rules, with up to 20 conditions per rule. Rules that check many different product tags or collections at once can reach Shopify's processing limit for a checkout, and the rule builder shows a message when a rule is too large.

Store health: stock, catalog and broken links

How do I get low stock alerts in Shopify?

Toolbench's Low Stock Alerts keeps a live list of every product variant at or below its stock threshold, for each location. The store-wide threshold starts at 5 units, and a variant drops off the list as soon as it's restocked. Alerts appear inside Toolbench; email alerts aren't available yet.

Can I set different low stock thresholds for different products?

Yes. Low Stock Alerts lets you write rules that give products their own threshold based on tag, collection, vendor, product type, SKU, status or location. The first rule that matches a product sets its threshold, and everything else uses the store-wide default.

How do I find Shopify products with missing images, alt text or SEO?

Toolbench's Catalog Health scans your whole catalog and lists products missing images, image alt text, an SEO title or description, a product category or a cost. The list updates as products are edited, so fixed products drop off.

How do I find duplicate SKUs in Shopify?

Toolbench's Catalog Health lists every SKU that's used on more than one variant, with the products that share it.

How do I fix 404 errors after deleting or renaming a Shopify product?

Toolbench's Broken Link Redirects catches product and collection URLs that stop working because the item was deleted or its URL handle changed. Each broken link shows up in a list with a one-click redirect to a page you choose, before customers or Google hit the 404.

Does Toolbench create redirects automatically?

No. Toolbench lists each broken link and you choose where it redirects with one click, or dismiss it. Nothing is redirected without your approval.

Team tools: notes and view history

How do I add internal notes to Shopify orders?

Toolbench's Internal Notes adds staff-only notes to orders, products and customers, beyond Shopify's single note field. Each note has a category, and staff add them from the order page under More actions > Tools. Customers never see these notes.

Can I see which staff member viewed an order in Shopify?

Yes. Toolbench's View History records which staff members had an order, product or customer page open, and when. It also shows who had a page open at the moment a change was made, which helps explain who edited what. View History works on pages where the Tools block is added.

What is the Toolbench Tools block?

The Tools block is a panel on Shopify's order, product and customer pages that shows that record's notes, recent changes and recent viewers in one place. Add it once from the page's app blocks and it appears on every page of that type.

Does View History need extra permissions?

No. View History asks for no store permissions at all. It only records staff page visits inside the Shopify admin.

Pricing and plans

How much does Toolbench cost?

Toolbench has a free plan that runs any 3 tools at a time, with no time limit. Premium is $9.99 a month and runs all 13 tools at once. Premium adds a small usage charge only when Order Change History tracks more than 1,000 orders in a billing cycle, and it starts with a 14-day free trial.

What is included in Toolbench's free plan?

The free plan includes any 3 of Toolbench's 11 basic tools at once, free forever, with no credit card. You can switch which 3 are on at any time. Order and Customer Change History need Premium.

What does Toolbench Premium add?

Premium turns on all 13 tools at once, including Order Change History and Customer Change History. It costs $9.99 a month and includes the first 1,000 orders tracked each billing cycle.

How does Toolbench's usage pricing work?

After the first 1,000 orders tracked in a billing cycle, each extra order costs a fraction of a cent, and the rate drops as volume grows. Each rate applies only to the orders inside its tier. That makes the full monthly Premium bill, including the $9.99, scale with order volume as shown below.

Orders tracked in a billing cyclePrice per order
1 to 1,000Included
1,001 to 3,000$0.005
3,001 to 10,000$0.003
10,001 to 25,000$0.002
25,001 and up$0.001

Full monthly Premium bill, including the $9.99

Orders tracked in a monthMonthly bill
Up to 1,000$9.99
3,000$19.99
10,000$40.99
25,000$70.99
50,000$95.99

What counts as an order tracked?

An order counts once per billing cycle when Order Change History records it, whether it was placed or changed. An order edited 15 times, by your staff or by other apps, still counts once. Orders aren't counted during the free trial.

Is there a free trial of Toolbench Premium?

Yes. Premium starts with a 14-day free trial, and no orders are counted during it.

How am I billed for Toolbench?

Toolbench bills through Shopify, so charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice. You approve a plan on Shopify's own plan page, and you can change or cancel it at any time from the Plan page in Toolbench.

What happens if I cancel Premium?

Your store moves to the free plan and nothing is deleted. The 3 tools you turned on first stay on, and the rest pause with their history kept. Restart Premium and every paused tool turns back on.

Is Toolbench free on development stores?

Yes. Premium is free to use on Shopify development stores, so partners and developers can test every tool.

Permissions, data and privacy

What permissions does Toolbench need?

Toolbench asks for no store permissions at install. Each tool asks only for the access it needs, and only when you turn it on, so a store that never uses order tools never grants order access.

Product Change HistoryRead products and inventory

Can Toolbench change my products, orders or customers?

No. Toolbench only reads your products, orders and customers; it never edits them. The only things it creates are the URL redirects you approve in Broken Link Redirects and its own checkout rules.

What customer data does Toolbench store?

Order and Customer Change History store the customer details that changed, such as an email, phone number or address, so they can show the before and after values. That data is kept only as long as your retention settings allow, and Toolbench deletes a customer's records when Shopify sends a customer data deletion request.

What happens to my data if I uninstall Toolbench?

Uninstalling cancels any Toolbench plan through Shopify. Shopify then sends a store data deletion request 48 hours later, and Toolbench deletes that store's data when it arrives.

Where is Toolbench's data stored?

Toolbench's app and database run on servers in the United States.

Install, setup and support

How do I install Toolbench?

Install Toolbench from the Shopify App Store, pick the Free or Premium plan, then open any tool and click Turn on. Each tool asks for its own permissions the first time you turn it on.

Do I need to edit my theme or add code to use Toolbench?

No. Toolbench needs no theme edits or code. Everything is set up inside the Shopify admin, and checkout rules apply to Shopify's checkout automatically.

How long does a Toolbench tool take to start working?

Most tools start working the moment they're turned on. Tools that need a starting point, like Catalog Health and Product Change History, first scan your current catalog, which can take a few minutes on a large store.

Can I use Toolbench on more than one Shopify store?

Yes. Install Toolbench on each store separately, and each store chooses its own plan.
