What Collection Change History does#

  • Track condition changes on automated collections.
  • Record products added to or removed from manual collections.
  • Review collection titles, descriptions, handles, SEO fields and sort order.

Set up Collection Change History#

  1. Open Collection Change History in Toolbench and choose Turn on. Choose it as one of your 3 active free modules, or use Premium.
  2. Review and approve any access request shown by Shopify.
  3. Allow the initial collection scan to save the current state.
  4. Edit a test collection in Shopify and inspect its history in Toolbench.
  5. Compare the changed conditions or fields before investigating related merchandising changes.

Settings and behavior#

Settings and behavior
Setting or fieldWhat it means
ConditionsBefore-and-after rules for automated collections.
Manual membershipProducts explicitly added to or removed from manual collections.
Collection fieldsRecorded edits to the collection’s title, URL, SEO and other settings.

A practical example#

An automated collection suddenly has fewer products. Check whether its conditions were edited and compare the old rule with the new one. If its conditions stayed the same, investigate product changes such as tags instead.

Permissions and data access#

Reads products and collections through Shopify’s product access permission. It does not change collections.

Access is requested when you turn the module on. Other enabled modules may request their own permissions.

Requirements and limits#

  • It cannot reconstruct edits made before activation.
  • Automated membership changing because a product tag changed is different from an edit to the collection’s own conditions.
  • It does not identify the editor or automatically restore previous settings.

If something is not working#

  • Confirm that the initial scan finished.
  • Use Product Change History if the collection’s conditions are unchanged but its matching products differ.
