What Discount Rules does#
- Build quantity or spend tiers in one discount.
- Apply percentage or fixed-amount reductions to qualifying items or orders.
- Create buy X get Y offers and discounts for selected shipping rates.
- Use automatic discounts or codes with schedules and combination settings.
Set up Discount Rules#
- Open Discount Rules in Toolbench and choose Turn on. This module requires Premium or its 14-day trial.
- Review and approve any access request shown by Shopify.
- Create a discount and choose its type.
- Set qualifying products, conditions and discount values. Review each threshold for a tiered offer.
- Choose automatic application or a code, then review dates and combinations.
- Save and test qualifying and non-qualifying carts.
Settings and behavior#

A practical example#
Offer 10% off at 3 eligible items and 20% off at 6. Put both thresholds in one tiered discount, then test carts with 2, 3 and 6 items.
Permissions and data access#
Reads products and manages discounts created by Toolbench.
Access is requested when you turn the module on. Other enabled modules may request their own permissions.
Requirements and limits#
- Shopify limits active app discounts across all apps in the store; each Toolbench discount supports up to 10 tiers.
- No product-page tier table, progress bar, automatic gift insertion, analytics or A/B testing is included.
- Buy X get Y discounts an eligible item already in the cart; the shopper must add it.
- Order tracking can incur Premium usage fees. Discount activity does not.
If something is not working#
- Check active dates, codes and qualifying items.
- Review combination settings when other discounts are present.
- For shipping offers, test the targeted rate and full delivery address.
