What Customer Change History does#
- Track name, email, phone and address edits.
- Review consent, tags, notes and tax-exemption changes.
- Read recent changes from the Tools block on a customer page.
Set up Customer Change History#
- Open Customer Change History in Toolbench and choose Turn on. This module requires Premium or its 14-day trial.
- Review and approve any access request shown by Shopify.
- Allow the initial customer scan to save current values.
- Review snapshot and history retention settings.
- Pin the Tools block on customer pages to read history while working on a record.
Settings and behavior#
| Setting or field | What it means |
|---|---|
| History retention | 365 days by default; configurable up to 730 days. |
| Snapshot retention | Current customer snapshots have a separate setting, defaulting to 180 days. |
| Before / after | The previous and updated values for each recorded field. |
A practical example#
A support teammate needs to understand why a customer’s email differs from a previous conversation. Review the email change and its recorded time before responding.
Permissions and data access#
Reads customers. Tracked customer details can appear in the stored before-and-after history.
Access is requested when you turn the module on. Other enabled modules may request their own permissions.
Requirements and limits#
- Edits made before activation cannot be recovered.
- The module does not restore profiles or prove who edited them.
- Customer history does not add to Premium’s tracked-order usage meter.
If something is not working#
- Confirm the scan finished and the edit happened after activation.
- Check the Tools block and staff-role setup if the history is visible in the app but not on the customer page.
