Shopify app comparison

Shopify order and customer edit history apps compared

Facts checked

Toolbench combines order and customer change history with checkout rules and store health tools. Premium includes all 16 modules for $9.99/month, with the first 1,000 tracked orders included and additional tracking usage billed separately.

When an order's address, items or total is edited, or a customer's email, consent or tags change, Shopify doesn't keep the earlier value where you can compare it. Two kinds of app fill the gap.

Change-log apps record each edit as it happens, with the old and new value. Backup apps save a copy of each order and customer every day, so you can open an earlier version. Both are compared here.

THE TOOLBENCH ADVANTAGE

One job solved. More tools ready when you need them.

You need a field-by-field record of order and customer edits, such as an old address, removed items, a changed total, consent or tags, shown on the order and customer page itself and kept up to a year for orders. It's part of Premium.

Check the fit for your store

  • Order and Customer Change History are part of Premium, not the free plan.
  • It doesn't restore or undo an edit. It shows the earlier value so you can copy it back.
  • It doesn't send alerts or export history to CSV.
  • It can't name the staff member behind most edits, because Shopify doesn't send that to apps. View History shows who had the page open.
  • It records from the moment it's turned on. It saves your recent orders and customers first, so the first edit already shows its before value.

Questions

Can I see an order's old shipping address in Shopify?

Shopify's order timeline lists edits but isn't laid out to compare old and new values. Toolbench's Order Change History and Logbook both say they record shipping address changes. Backup apps such as Rewind and BackupMaster keep dated copies of orders, but neither lists the address among the order fields it saves.

Do backup apps show what changed on an order?

They show earlier versions. Rewind and BackupMaster back up daily and save a new version when something changed, so you can compare a saved version with the current order.

Is there a free app for Shopify order edit history?

None of the six has a free plan for live stores. Toolbench's Order Change History comes with Premium's 14-day trial, and the others offer 7 to 14-day trials, except Logbook, which shows none.
